Officer Mary Gibney, Yarmouth Police Department
Mary has held multiple positions in law enforcement for over 26 years and has been a police officer with the Town of Yarmouth for 18 years. In her role with the Yarmouth Police Department , Mary is a certified 911 operator/ telecommunicator and has also been a certified EMT for 21 years. Mary serves as an instructor for 1st Aid and CPR and currently manages the medical equipment for the Yarmouth Police Department.
For community based activities, Mary has facilitated a Senior Citizen's Police Academy at the Yarmouth Senior Center and just started a new one at King's Way.
Additional leadership roles include being a member of the Yarmouth Police Department's Peer Support Team, a Board Member on the Yarmouth Police Relief Association and Mary has served as Secretary for Patrol Officers MassCop Union Local 467.
Along the way, Mary has developed a passion for keeping our residents safe from scammers. This had led Mary to speak with many organizations in our community to provide insight on how to avoid falling prey to this growing criminal trend.
Mary also has significant achievements in her athletic career. As a 1992 graduate of Wachusett Hill School, she was elected to her high school Athletic Hall of Fame for outstanding achievements in basketball, soccer and softball.
Mary also starred in college athletics. During her time at Westfield State College she was part of the 1996 NCAA Division III Women's Championship, named ECAC Division III Rookie of the Year in 1992 and named an All American in Women's Division III Basketball Northeast. In 2012, she was inducted into the Westfield State College Athletics Hall of Fame after scoring 1,122 points in her college career.
Mary holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Westfield State University. On a personal level, Mary is also a Yarmouth resident.
