Golf Objective
In keeping with the spirit of the Retired Men’s Club of Cape Cod, Golf is a socially competitive league. We try our best to have you play with different members at each event. Ten courses are selected each year from a combination of private and public courses giving members an opportunity to play a variety of courses at a special rate. RMC also attempts to provide a special golfer’s luncheon menu at a reasonable price for the event participants.
Golf
There are five events scheduled in the Spring starting late April, and five in the Fall in the August/October time frame. (Current Schedule Link). A Registration form for each session is required (Registration Form Link) where a member may select any number of the session’s five events. A down payment of $20 per event selected is required along with the registration form. The remainder of the fee will be due on the morning of the event (CHECKS ONLY). Adequate time is provided for cancellations where down payment money will be rebated. Each event has a cut-off date, typically the Friday before. If a cancellation is received after the cutoff, the golf committee will determine if a rebate is warranted.
HANDICAPS
RMC utilizes Golf Software’s WEB version to manage team creation and to calculate and maintain handicaps. Initial handicaps for new members are based on a home course handicap, a GHIN handicap or a best reasonable guess. Once the initial handicap is established, handicaps are recalculated after each RMC event. Handicaps are carried over from a previous year’s play. Play is always from the FORWARD tees. Teams are based on individual handicaps and balanced such that each team is normally within a couple of strokes of each other. Late cancellations sometime cause a variation. Each team is assigned a captain who is responsible for collecting the remainder of the event fee and keeping the team score. Captains are usually the lowest handicap player. However, any team member can be the captain.
Prizes
Modest prizes are awarded to team members of the four lowest net scoring teams. In the flighted format where there is an AB Flight and CD Flight, identical prizes are awarded to both. In this format only the first two teams in each flight received prizes. Individual prizes are only awarded in the closest-to-pin competition and for a hole-in-one, independent of the format. Winnings are accumulated and distributed at the end of the event session.
